Speaker Kevin O'Brien
Kevin O'Brien was appointed Professor of Orthodontics at the University of Manchester in 1996. He has previously held posts in the USA and was Dean of Manchester Dental School from 2004-2007 and Associate Dean of the Faculty of Medical and Human Sciences from 2007-2010. He was Chair of the General Dental Council from 2011-2013. He is currently the Director of the Manchester Academic Health Science Centre Clinical Trials Unit.
His main research interests are clinical trials of the care of children with severe dentofacial problems. He has published over 90 scientific papers, mostly in the American Journal of Orthodontics. Committed to teaching and research, he has obtained €7m external research funding. He has given the Northcroft Memorial and Ballard Lectures for the British Orthodontic Society and has been awarded the Turpin, Dewel and Jarabak awards by the American Association of Orthodontists. He currently writes a surprisingly successful orthodontic blog (www.kevinobrienorthoblog.com). His only obsession is Manchester United Football Club.
